Actions done since last time: Dave has been on Channel M about airport workers being enrolled on the NIR.
The last stall was a great sucess, with a queue of people waiting to sign up. Someone from Bolton wanted to restart a local group there too. Tom and Dave had letters published in the MEN.
There was a review of national news, such as stealing fingerprints and the NIR being relegated to a proof of age scheme.
There was a discussion about recent UK-national card pictures appearing different to current non-UK-national cards.
Next was the airport trial NIR scheme. London are talking to their unions, and we suggested contacting ours too as well as the non-labour councils. If we can find the airports unite rep. so much the better.
This led to brain storming about ways to protest at the airport: arrange a for/against ballot, organised (mass) refusal, general awareness of NIR consequences, a meeting on site and press notification.
We discussed how employment contracts may prevent effective access to our email mailing list and Dave confirmed the archives are only available to list members, and the subscription list to admins.
Thales was the next topic. They have been awared an £18m contract for NIR work in Stockport. Details to go up at

Biometric VisaID Cards and Liverpool Demo
No2ID is starting a national campaign with a form letter over biometric visas. The idea is to get many public/famous people to agree to it and then contact the press. Dan commented that key university staff might sign it, and this led to a further list of local figures being drawn up. Dan suggested using 'say no to 0870' as a telephone number resource.
The reluctance of NoBorders to co-ordinate actions was discussed. Dave will try his best to keep talking to them.
The mechanics of making and burning a giant ID card was talked about.
Dave is off to Liverpool for a meeting tomorrow night for the demo there. Details to go up at http://manchester.no2id.net/content/no2id-defy-id-protest-liverpool
At last month's meeting, the idea of a stall on Saturday 22nd to highlight the demo in Liverpool on Tuesday 25th. Dave said he wouldn't be able to run it but could pass over the stall, trifolds etc. to somebody else if they wanted.
'Modern Liberty' is taking place on 28th Feb. in London and is a Guardian sponsored event. Dave suggest a local session using video conferencing to take part in the main event, debate and Q+A, using SU resources.
