Minutes of Manchester NO2ID Meeting, 16th January 2008
Recent Events
It's been pretty quiet over the Christmas break, with just the January street stall since the December meeting.
Dave managed to lose the Manchester NO2ID PAYG phone over Christmas, and has paid for a replacement. The phone number remains the same.
Last Meeting's Minutes
Dave has not yet been given the footage from his appearance on Channel M. He needs to chase this up.
We have not yet contacted the Cornerhouse re. a screening of Taking Liberties on the Big Screen at the Triangle.
We have not yet contacted any schools about screenings of Taking Liberties as part of PSHE or Citizenship curricula.
Dave has collected a list of Greater Manchester political parties and drafted a form e-mail, but has not yet begun to make contact.
It was suggested that we contact the data controller for the GMPTE travel pass and ask for their data collection, protection and usage policy, to see whether the new travel pass allows personal data to be transferred and used for multiple purposes.
Dave contacted The Big Opt Out about the demographics and DPA opt-outs for the NHS Spine; they are trialling opt-out methods and will update their website soon. Dave will look into how you can opt out if you're not registered with a GP, and what the data protection policy is for the Organ Donor Register.
There are no announced plans for driving licenses to become designated documents for the National Identity Register in the immediate future.
Saturday Stalls
We run our stalls from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday afternoons. It is always quiet when we start and quite busy when we finish. From March onwards, we will run our stall from 2pm to 4pm in the hope that we'll get more passing trade.
Dave will not be present for the February or March stalls, so we need someone to take charge of bringing the stall and flyers to St Ann's Square for these events.
Students Against ID
We have some interest in Students Against ID, but are still not an official student society.
Dave has been talking to Manchester Uni Lib Dems about getting a motion opposing ID cards on the Student Union agenda. SU elections are also coming up, and it'd be worth Students Against ID contacting the candidates for this.
The national NUS conference is in March / April in Blackpool. It would be good to get a "friendly" SU to propose an anti-ID-card motion at this. Dave will take this back to NO2ID.
Societies to contact include the Burlington Society (postgrads, mature students and staff), Debating Society, Documentary Society and Film Soc.
Manchester NO2ID Organisation
Dave needs to buy a Manchester NO2ID stamp for the trifold leaflets, with our phone number and website on. He looked into this before, but the best site had problems with online ordering. VistaPrint was suggested as being a cheap place for a self-inking stamp.
We should look at getting a proper bank account for Manchester NO2ID.
Other Business
Nick suggested we contact Manchester-area MPs and ask them to sign the NO2ID Pledge.
Dave to chase up the current status of the ICO vs DWP court case.
Dave to ask Bob for the artwork for the Defy-ID CCTV CD.
Dave has been in contact with Revolver Entertainment about copies of "Taking Liberties" (DVD and book) on sale-or-return, for sale at events and meetings for people who have difficulty buying it elsewhere.
Future Events
The next street stall will be Saturday 9th February, from 1pm-3pm in St. Ann's Square.
The next meeting will be on Wednedsay 13th February, from 7pm-9pm at the Town Hall Tavern, Tib Lane, Manchester.
