The Liberal Democrats are the only major party to actively be against the introduction of the National I.D. card from the very outset, on the various ground of: cost, loss of Civil Liberty with no real impact to terror prevention, that the system would be unmanageable (the new NHS computer system has demonstrated this along with many IT experts who have no faith in the system), and that it would be run by the private sector.

As far as I am concerned, the I.D. proposals are Orwellian, fatally flawed and should not be allowed to go ahead, with the huge proposed investment instead going to fund extra Police Officers.

I am totaly opposed to ID cards and I will not carry one. I have expressed this view publicly before and it is a matter of public record. My view is broadly agreed with within the party Nationaly and locally.
