Aren't Identity Cards Inevitable?

Despite NO2ID's lobbying, the Identity Cards Act 2006 has been passed, albeit in a weaker form than originally intended. So is the fight against the National Identity Register over? Not by a long shot. It's not like we don't have better things to do with our Saturday afternoons if we did think there was no hope!

Public opinion against the scheme has always been high. The Government has to cite loaded polls with questions such as Do you support Identity Cards which help fight terrorism and identity theft to pretend they have a mandate - questions which nobody would say no to.

NO2ID continue to raise the issues of massive cost, flawed technology and privacy violation in the media and to the public. Once the system is explained to them, people almost always join us in denouncing it. We expect that as more and more people are enrolled onto the system, particularly when compulsory registration begins outside passport renewals, public opinion against the scheme will increase dramatically.

Please get involved and help us bring about the end of these schemes as soon as possible.
