Surveillance Society: Turning Debate into Action

Date:
Tue, 11/12/2007 - 12:30am - 6:30pm

On 11 December 2007 the Information Commissioner's Office will be hosting a conference entitled Surveillance Society: Turning Debate into Action at the Bridgewater Hall in central Manchester.

The conference aims to build on their previous report, A Surveillance Society, and will be looking forward to actions that can be taken to deal with the consequences of a surveillance society. The Information Commissioner also intends to launch a handbook on Privacy Impact Assessments at the conference.

It looks like we'll be doing two flyering sessions. The first will be ahead of registration and opening, from 9:15am to 10am. The second will be at the close, from 4:30pm to 5pm. For both of these, we'll be distributing the "confidential data" CDs we prepared a few weeks ago for our emergency street stall.

If you can make it to either of these flyering sessions, please meet outside the Bridgewater Hall; it's just up the tram tracks away from St. Peter's Square tram stop.

After the conference and drinks reception close on Tuesday, I'll be meeting up with national NO2ID co-ordinator Phil Booth, in the Waterhouse pub near the Town Hall. Precise timings will vary; you might want to call the NO2ID batphone to find out where we are.
